The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has approved cancellation of entire results of candidates if found guilty of examination malpractice.

The decision was reached at the 61st Meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) of West African Examinations Council (WAEC) held at Excellence Hotel and Conference Centre, Ogba, Lagos.

The communiqué made available to the press stated: ‘’It approved the entire results of candidates involved in proven cases, which attract Cancellation of Entire Results (CER) be cancelled, while subject results of those involved in proven cases which attract Cancellation of Subject Results (CSR), be similarly cancelled.’’

It said that some candidates who participate in examination malpractice will also suffer other sanctions such as being barred from sitting for the Council’s examinations for a certain number of years, while some schools which connive with students to cheat will be de-recognised.

The statement as signed by the Head of Public Affairs, WAEC, Nigeria, Mr. Demianus Ojijeogu vowed that the decisions of the Committee will be implemented without delay and the affected candidates and schools will be duly informed by the Council.

It, however, promised that the results of candidates of May/June 2015 WASSCE who were exonerated of examination malpractice by the Committee will be released.

On the cases of candidates who engaged in examination malpractice but did restitution to WAEC, it said the Committee considered special cases, clemency cases, restitution, petitions and previous cases referred for further investigation from previous examinations.

Membership of the Committee comprises four representatives each, of the State Ministries of Education and the Department of Education of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS and the Universities.

It also includes the Registrar to Council, the Head of the Nigeria National Office, the Head of the Test Development Division (TDD) and the Head of the Test Administration Division (TAD) of the Council.
